Winter in Oxford

Winter in Oxford is lovely in it's own way.  The days are short -- sunrise just after 8am, sunset before 4pm.  It is often grey and it does rain a lot.  But the sun also shines, in snitches and snatches, with occasional gorgeous blue skies.  The land stays green, despite the bare trees.  Green grass, green meadows, green shrubs, and of course, many evergreens.  Most days are warm enough to enjoy the outdoors.  Song birds stay for the winter and our garden is full of birds foraging for a meal and singing their hopes for spring. Dashes of color are everywhere from bright berries on holly bushes, to winter flowering plum trees that are in full bloom right now.  We are starting to see the tender green shoots of bulbs poking out of the ground with a promise of a colorful spring. It has snowed a few times but the snow never stayed for long.  Maybe the worst of winter is yet to come, but there are signs everywhere that the earth is already starting to think about Spring.

Happy New Year!

  1. Gorgeous photos. Makes me think of the book "The Secret Garden."
