On the Rooftops of Oxford

The rooftops of Oxford are fascinating.  Towers, spires, chimneys, sculptures, ancient trees, weather vanes, and domes of every variety define the skyline. It is worth every step to climb one of the steep staircases of the Oxford towers and be rewarded a rooftop view.  If heights are not your thing, just look up -- you'll be amazed at what you can see on the rooftops of Oxford.

For Close-up Views of the rooftops of Oxford:

The University Church of St. Mary the Virgin on High Street.  This is my favorite because it is right in the heart of the city and you can see to the borders of Oxford in every direction.

If you know where these are, let me know. Thanks!

  1. Love these over-the-top rooftops. Cambridge so much more staid! Though must keep a look-out... Top of Trinity is *insane*!! Also, I love the mosque minaret. We are yet to get a mosque in Cambridge. The architects have submitted plans but who knows when the mosque will get built (they are still raising the money). Oh, tiny typo spotted: Baliol/Balliol. Such wonderful pics.

  2. This collection of photographs is wonderful. Oxford is certainly a city of extraordinary rooftops...when driving around the temptation to look up is only kept in check by the number of cyclists on the road!

    1. Thank you! You are right about the bicyclists -- they are fast, silent, and deadly. I do love the fact, though, that much of Oxford is car free.
